Learn about Australian flora and fauna

Chris's first full day in Kakadu was dedicated to exploring the stunning natural landscapes, starting with Motor Car Falls. Walking through lush rainforest trails and visiting places like Jim Jim Billabong allowed Chris to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Chris learned about the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in this unique environment, deepening his appreciation for nature.

Understand the unique ecosystem of the Northern Territory

Kakadu National Park is known for its diverse ecosystems, including its tropical climate, distinct wet and dry seasons, and diverse landscapes ranging from wetlands and rivers to rugged stone country and savannah woodlands. Throughout the eight days, Chris’ exploration of these different landscapes gave him a clear insight into the delicate balance of nature in the Northern Territory. He learnt how wetlands support a variety of wildlife, from birds to crocodiles on the Jarrangbarnmi Walk and on the Yellow Water Billabong cruise, he learnt about the unique river systems and the different habitats within them.

Learn about the rich Indigenous history

Kakadu has been home to Aboriginal people for more than 65,000 years. Chris wanted to gain a deeper understanding about the area's rich history. The main goal was to connect with different cultures, and the Jarrangbarnmi Walk at Koolpin Gorge provided that opportunity. Plus, viewing the rock paintings at Ubirr offered insights into the traditional lands and practices of the Indigenous people.

Develop independence when travelling

One of Chris's personal goals was to travel independently and navigate new environments. Throughout the trip, he faced and overcame various challenges, such as managing travel logistics to exploring unfamiliar locations. With the support of Bunji Support Worker Scott, Chris gained confidence in his ability to manage and enjoy these experiences independently.
