5 life skills Trevor gained on his trip to America with Bunji Travel
Trevor’s dream of travelling to America to visit the home of Elvis Presley and discover the rich history of the country became a reality thanks to Bunji Travel. Supported by Bunji Support Worker Ros, Trevor embarked on a 10-day adventure across Tennessee, Washington, D.C., and New York City.
Bunji Travel designed this experience with Trevor’s goals and interests in mind. The trip was more than just sightseeing; it was about giving Trevor support to go on his first international trip without his family.
Here are the top five life skills Trevor gained on his trip to America:
1. Independence in international travel
This was Trevor's first journey overseas without his family. Navigating international airports, managing travel logistics, and experiencing different cultures along the way boosted his confidence and independence significantly.
2. Cultural immersion in Rock ‘n’ Roll
Trevor is a big fan of Elvis Presley and wanted to immerse himself in the vibrant culture of Graceland, the home of the Rock ‘n’ Roll legend. Exploring Elvis's mansion, museum, and even his personal plane, the Lisa Marie, allowed Trevor to deepen his appreciation for music history and cultural icons.
3. Learning and appreciating American history
Trevor experienced the heart of American democracy firsthand by visiting Capitol Hill and the White House in Washington, D.C. He also visited national landmarks, like the Lincoln Memorial and the National Monument. These experiences broadened his understanding of U.S. politics and gave him an insight into the country’s rich history.
4. Navigating international public transport
During his trip, Trevor utilised international public transport, including catching a train from D.C. to New York, taking a yellow cab in New York City, and boarding a ferry to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. These experiences helped him develop skills in navigating different transportation systems and adjusting to new environments.
5. Managing crowds and busy environments
Trevor faced the challenge of navigating bustling crowds and busy public spaces while exploring iconic locations like Times Square and the Empire State Building. These environments helped him develop patience, adaptability, and the ability to confidently navigate dynamic urban areas.
Trevor had an incredible time on his 10-day journey through America with Bunji Travel. He was able to experience new places, connect with history, and immerse himself in American culture — all while achieving his goals. This trip equipped him with invaluable life skills that will continue to enrich his personal growth and independence.
